Obsessive Compulsive Disorder

I have successfully worked with a great many issues and Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder is another one of those areas where I have positively changed the lives of those that have sort my help. It is not something that I come across as often as other issues, however, there can be several factors that are relative to this and it can go undiagnosed.

Stress is often a major contributory factor and as anyone that has ever been to see me knows, hypnotherapy is one of the most relaxing things we can do, so deep relaxation must be helpful where OCD is concerned.

I am about to use a term, that few will have heard of, and least likely understand without explanation and that is the ‘hypnotic condition’, where the imagination becomes more real, than reality itself.

There are a great many myths and misconceptions around hypnosis and the hypnotic state, and a question I ask my clients is, “how many times in your life, have you been in a hypnotic state?”. The common answer is never.

"hypnotherapy one of the best ways in which to create a new reality and not only that, but it is also one of the best ways to communicate with the problem part of the mind"

Have you ever watched a film and cried, even though you know the characters are not actually real?

I can sit here typing, thinking about one film that always gets me, and that would be Steven Spielberg’s ‘E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial’. I know that E.T. is not real, tell that to my brain as I get deeper into the film. I am unsure how the Hollywood film makers would describe this phenomenon; that I call an eyes open hypnotic state.

Alternatively, have you ever driven somewhere and been surprised or startled to find you have arrived at your destination?

So, how many times in your life, do you think you have been in a hypnotic state?

As we enter a hypnotic state, our focus narrows, we become inwardly absorbed, I and other professionals such as Mark Tyrrell, appear to have a similar viewpoint when it comes to dealing with OCD.

Mark talks about the fact that OCD is not a ‘thought disorder’, rather a ‘feeling disorder’, perhaps even an ‘imagination disorder’. Making hypnotherapy one of the best ways in which to create a new reality and not only that, but it is also one of the best ways to communicate with the problem part of the mind.

Conscious versus subconscious mind is another area that many of the public gives little thought towards. As you sit there reading this, how much attention were you paying towards your breathing?

There are different schools of thought around what percentage we are operating at on a conscious or unconscious level, one thing is certain, the lions share of how we operate, and function is unconscious/subconscious.

For those that understand OCD, there is a significant element of fear and hypnotherapy and some of the associated techniques that I use, are ideal for resolving fears and phobia, thus it makes sense to work upon this element also.

WHAT OUR CLIENTS SAY

Why choose me to help?

Around 1% of UK Hypnotherapists complete an advanced hypnotherapy qualification and whilst I am unsure of the actual numbers within each professional body, and even less so overseas, I know that this is the case with the General Hypnotherapy Standards Council and within my membership of the General Hypnotherapy Register. I have made the effort and investment required to complete this next phase of my professional development and can call myself an Advanced Practitioner.

In studying for my Advanced Hypnotherapy Diploma (NQF 6), I was fortunate enough to study with ex-Sheffield Hallam University lecturer Doctor Paul Peace, Philosophy (PHD), Psychology, and Karen Bartle who holds a master’s degree in Health/Medical Psychology.

Throughout my career as a Hypnotherapist, I have been fortunate to study with people whom I consider to be some of the best in the business and in addition to studying with Karen and Paul, I trained with Matthew Ferguson and he has worked with Olympic athletes, Doctors and Psychiatrists to name but a few professions and he has over 25 years’ experience of Hypnosis and Clinical Hypnotherapy, and he also shared some fantastic knowledge and expertise with me.

I was also, fortunate enough to study with Nick Davies who created the BLAST Technique®

The studying I completed with Nick, sees me able to resolve negative memories through eye movement, and this is one of the most valuable skills I possess. I have studied numerous times with him and there are less than 50 Advanced BLAST Technique practitioner® in the world (3/2/21), of which I am one.

In short, I have an Advanced Diploma in Clinical Hypnotherapy, I am a Master Practitioner of Neuro-linguistic programming, a skilled eye movement therapist, a qualified Advanced BLAST Technique practitioner®, as well as also being a Motivation Therapist and Coach. I have helped thousands of people and I am confident that my help will positively make a difference, however, rather take my word for this, I would encourage you to read the reviews left by others, you can do this by clicking the link below.
